Is It Time to Begin Weaning Your Baby on to Solid Foods? How to Choose the Right Baby Bib for Your C
What are the Different Types of Bib for Babies and Children?
Very young babies don't really need a bib, but some parents like to use a soft fabric bib to capture any dribble or milk during feeds. As a baby grows and becomes more mobile, a fabric bib is useful to mopping up drool, especially during teething episodes. By the time you arrive at the weaning stage, a small baby fabric bib is unlikely to be large enough to cope with the mess, so you might wish to upgrade to a larger version. Once your baby is old enough to feed himself, a plastic catch-all bib is probably going to be the most appropriate type of bib.
Big is Beautiful
Weaning babies is a messy business. No matter how careful you are to position the spoon of food near his mouth, your baby is likely to try and use his fingers to help things along. Before you know it, food will be all over him, all over the high chair and all over the floor. Having a family dog is useful as they are always happy to clean the food from the floor, but if you want to keep the worst of the mess from your baby's clothes, a large bib is going to be very handy.
Absorbent Bibs are the Best
The best bibs for early weaning are the large fabric ones with a highly absorbent layer of towelling. This type of bib soaks up the mess and once mealtime is over you can use the dry corners to wipe down your baby's mouth and fingers before popping it into the washing machine. Bandana bibs are easy for babies to wear, or you might prefer a more traditional style of bib with a tie cord or Velcro fastening. But whatever style you opt for, make sure it is as large as possible.
