Compare Natural Gas Furnaces
- 1). Keep your overall budget for your new natural gas furnace in mind as you shop. Comparing will be easier if you can automatically eliminate models that are too expensive. Between furnace cost and installation, you should expect to pay at least $1,500.
- 2). Pay attention to the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency rating, or AFUE rating. This rating tells you how efficient the natural gas furnaces you're comparing are. The ratings range from 78%, which is the minimum, to over 96%.
- 3). Look for the recommended square footage that the natural gas furnaces you're comparing can heat. The furnace you choose should at least be able to heat the square footage of your home. Other factors, such as inefficient windows and insulation or extreme weather conditions, could make buying a slightly larger gas furnace than needed a good idea. A reputable contractor will be able to fully assess your heat capacity needs.
- 4). Find natural gas furnaces that have features that are important to you. Variable speed blowers, for example, allow you to heat some areas of your home more than others, such as bedrooms and your living room. An air filtration system, dual heat exchanger, ignition system and zoned heating are a few other features to consider.
