The type and quality of mattress you sleep on has a huge effect on the quality of sleep you get and if you have trouble sleeping then simply changing your mattress can make all the difference.
The real purpose of a mattress is to make you comfortable when you sleep.
This "comfort" really translate to the fact that you need to allow all your muscles to relax while you sleep.
The problem with some mattresses is that it actually places strain on certain muscles and even on your spine.
This is usually when you have trouble sleeping.
Since we all have different bodies, we all have very different needs in a mattress.
There are essentially 2 types of mattresses.
Firstly, spring mattresses are are basically composites and is made up of several lays of supporting material while the main support is absorbed by a series of springs.
Spring mattresses can be very expensive and it all depends on the quality of the materials and springs.
One of the problems is that the springs only provide localized support an its not always evenly distributed.
It also tends to lose its firmness over time.
Secondly, foam mattresses are some of the latest and most sophisticated types.
While it was traditionally seen as a lower quality, the latest types of foam are seen as a breakthrough in bedding technology.
Visco foam (or memory foam) has been adapted into the Tempur-pedic range of beds and is said to provide superior support while you sleep.
Unlike a spring mattress that only supports point loads, the foam actually supports you over the entire length of the mattress.
It also has the benefit of "never" losing its shape and overall its a much more robust solution that has many benefits to your spine and overall health.
