How to Install a Ceiling Fan Free
- 1). Shut off the electricity to the existing ceiling light fixture at the fuse box.
- 2). Take out the screws holding the fixture to the ceiling electrical box. Disconnect the wires behind it by twisting off the two wire nuts that connect the wires from the light to the black and white wires from the box. Discard the light fixture. Keep the two wire nuts.
- 3). Install the mounting bracket for your fan to the electrical box, using the provided screws.
- 4). Connect the bare copper grounding wire from the electrical box to the green grounding screw on the mounting bracket. Tighten the grounding screw.
- 5). Put the fan together on the floor, except the blades.
- 6). Take the fan assembly up the ladder and hold it near the electrical box. Connect the black wire from the fan assembly to the black wire from the electrical box, using one of the wire nuts you saved to twist and seal the two wires. Repeat for the white wire from the fan and the white wire from the box, using the other salvaged wire nut.
- 7). Raise the assembly to the ceiling and fit it against the mounting bracket. Line up the screw holes between the housing and the bracket. Insert the screws that came with the unit to secure it.
- 8). Turn on the power to the circuit and test the motor. If it's working properly, attach the blades as instructed.
