Whose Fault Is It When People Are Overweight?
If you are wondering how someone can end up overweight, whether it is you or a loved one, there really are at least a few ideas on who can be an influence to the person and their eating, exercising, and overall nutrition habits.
It is extremely important to take a look at the overall situation, and then you will be able to fully understand not only how others can contribute to someone being overweight, but how you can potentially stop them from becoming overweight as well with this newfound knowledge.
1. Family (and primarily parents)
When someone is a child, they form all of their day to day habits in life. This includes everything from sleeping to socialization to how they speak to even eating.
Children aren't likely to shop for themselves, cook their own food, or make the decisions of where the family goes out to eat either, so it's definitely a major opportunity for parents to influence and train their children on eating properly. It is also a major idea of why some children can grow up with poor eating habits and have some of the worst nutritional mindsets around; because that might be all that they have ever known.
2. Friends
Another major influence on someone and why they may definitely be overweight has to be their friends. If they are seriously hanging out with their friends a lot (maybe at work, going to games, hanging out at bars, doing events together, etc.), then you will see that a lot of friends end up following the same eating habits.
This makes a lot of sense because one friend won't just go out with other friends and then go to a different place for dinner before they meet up again. What this means is if you find a group of people who are all going to eat fried food, wings, meat lover's pizza, and a ton of beers, you will most likely see everyone in the group doing the same thing.
3. Education
Finally, another major influence on an individual and their eating habit can be their education (or lack of) about specific foods. If they were never taught the importance of checking nutritional value labels, understanding their own cholesterol, and other things of that nature, then how can they expect to be in a situation where they are not only going to understand all of that information, but also follow it properly each and every day?
This is something that must be taught in specialized health and physical education classes, or else the student might never be able to learn it if they aren't lucky enough to.
Overall, there can be a lot of places, careers, individuals, and just chance events that will allow each and every one of us to learn more about and follow through with proper eating and nutritional habits. However, if we don't follow through with them (or we continue to be in the same family or group of friends), then how are we ever going to change our eating and diet habits?
We may not be able to decide our past or current situation, but we must decide the future and how we will choose to take care of our bodies and health.
