Harley-Davidson offers eight versions of its softail bike family: the FXSTB Night Train, FXSTC Softail Custom, FLSTF Fat Boy, FLSTN Softail Deluxe, FLSTC Softail Heritage Classic and FLSTSB Softail Cross Bones. Softails also include the FXCW Rocker and FXCWC Rocker C. These motorcycles are engineered and styled to evoke the classic hardtail bikes but are equipped with rear shock absorbers for a more comfortable ride over long distances.

    FXSTB Night Train

    • The 2008 Night Train features the iconic fat rear tire and black powder-coated engine with textured covers and black cast aluminum. The 656-lbs. bike measures 94.5 inches long on a 66.9-inch wheelbase. The seat sits 26.8 inches off the ground. The Night Train features an air-cooled Twin-cam engine displacing 96 cubic inches with a 3.75-inch cylinder bore and 4.38-inch stroke. A six-speed chain-drive transmission matches the engine.

    FXSTC Softail Custom

    • The Softail Custom takes the opposite direction of the dark Night Train with plenty of chrome accents and chrome-buttoned King/Queen seat. Its length and wheelbase are identical to the Night Train with the seat sitting at 26.4 inches and a slightly heavier 672-lbs. overall weight. The Twin-cam engine is virtually identical to the Night Train with an electronic fuel injection system delivering fuel from a five-gallon tank.

    FLSTF Fat Boy

    • The FLSTF Fat Boy is a slightly different Softail. Its length is 94.3 inches, but the wheelbase is nearly 2 ½ inches shorter than the Night Train and Custom at 64.5 inches. The seat also sits lower at 25.4 inches. Its weight also matches it name at a hefty 694 lbs. The engine is the same as the Nigh Train and Custom, generating 89 ft.-lbs. of torque. The Fat Boy features a wide 200 mm rear tire and giant knuckle risers.

    FLSTN Softail Deluxe

    • Another big bike is the 695-lb. Softail Deluxe, featuring a 64.5-inch wheelbase and measuring 94.7 inches long. The seat sits low at 24.5 inches, and ground clearance is a scant 4.8 inches. The engine is the venerable 96-cubic inch, air-cooled Twin-cam. The speedometer, clock and dual tripmeter are mounted on the tank. It also features an integrated luggage rack not found on the other models.

    FLSTC Softail Heritage Classic

    • The Heritage Classic's dimensions are consistent with the Fat Boy and Softail Deluxe but weighs in at a robust 725 lbs. The Twin-cam engine and chassis characteristics are identical to the other models. However, the bike features a quick-release windshield, 1940's era leather saddlebags, chrome accents on the front fender and passenger backrest.

    FLSTSB Softail Cross Bones

    • The Cross Bones is a shorter bike at 90.5 inches long although its wheelbase measures 64.5 inches. Weighing in at about 700 lbs., its obesity doesn't affect the performance of the Twin-cam engine, even with a slightly less foot-pound rating of 84.8. The bike still gets 54 MPG on the highway.

FXCW Rocker and FXCWC Rocker C

    • The Rocker and Rocker C are long bikes at 95 inches with a 69.2-inch wheelbase, yet they are lighter at 660 lbs. and 686 lbs., respectively. The engines of both bikes are identical to their siblings. The rear tire measure a wide 240 mm.
