    • 1). Decide on the format of your contest. You can choose to set up a tournament of duels for multiple players, or create a costume contest where contestants dress as their favorite Yu-Gi-Oh character or monster.

    • 2). Set the rules for the contest. These rules should be written down and given to each participant in the contest. The rules should prevent any cheating and keep all entries fair. If you're holding a tournament for the contest, you may choose to hold a Sealed Pack tournament where each player is given an unopened Yu-Gi-Oh deck to use rather than his own cards. See Resources for information on tournament types.

    • 3). Choose whether to charge an entry fee for the contest. The fee can help pay for prizes, supplies and renting a meeting area.

    • 4). Gather a selection of prizes for the contest. The prizes are based on how much money you're willing to spend or how many items you can have donated to the contest. Decks of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, DVDs of the anime or video games from the franchise can all be used as prizes. You can also use cash prizes for the winners of the contest, especially a tournament.

    • 5). Locate a place to hold the contest. If you're having a small group of contestants, you can use your home, while larger contests can be held in a park or public location such as your town's recreation center. Get permission before holding any contest in a public area.

    • 6). Assign judges for the contest. These judges should be unbiased and be familiar with the rules of the event. Judges will be used to decide winners of costume contests or settle disputes during tournaments.

    • 7). Create an invitation for your contest. If you're holding a tournament, send the invitation out to all known Yu-Gi-Oh players in your area. You can limit the contest to just friends or extend the contest to all Yu-Gi-Oh fans. For larger contests, create flyers and deliver them to gaming and comic book stores.

    • 8). Hold the contest. Follow the rules you have set and your Yu-Gi-Oh contest should go according to plan. Always keep extra prizes and space available for latecomers to the competition.
