How to Make a Tri-Cornered Black Hat out of Construction Paper
- 1). Draw out a line against a ruler on a piece of card stock. This line will be the bottom of the sides of your hat. Draw the line as long or as short as you want. The longer the line, the bigger the hat while the shorter the line, the smaller the hat.
- 2). Draw about an inch straight up from one of the line's edges. Curve the line inward and continue it upward until you're about three inches from the middle of the straight line. You want the line to curve so it roughly resembles a point across from the middle of the straight line.
- 3). Continue the line by curving it down, towards the other end of the straight line. Curve the line back inward about an inch from the other line edge. Then connect the edge line like you did with the first line. You are aiming for a shape as seen on the Franklin Institute's website.
- 4). Cut out the shape.
- 5). Trace this outline onto three sheets of black construction paper. Cut out the three shapes.
- 6). Staple the edges of the three shapes together so they resemble a tricorn hat. The hat will look like it has three corners. The further in from the edges you staple the hat, the smaller it will be. The further out you staple the hat, the wider it will be.
