Midge Repellent
- DEET, developed by the U.S. military in 1946, is a chemical used to repel midges. DEET can be found in many liquid sprays, including Off!, Sawyer Jungle Juice, Repel and Ultrathon Insect Repellent.
- If you experience itching or other irritation using DEET, you may want to consider a natural repellent. Natural midge repellents include eucalyptus, lavender and lemon. You can get these repellents in the form of a rub-on oil from natural sports stores.
- There are several things you can do to avoid midges that won't cost you a penny. For example, you can cover up bare skin, avoid wearing dark colors (which attract midges) and avoid being outside at dawn and dusk (when midges are most active).
