How to Convert Cassette to PC
- 1). Download and install the Windows version of an audio converting software, such as the free Audacity program (see link in Resources). Restart the computer.
- 2). Put the cassette player next to the computer and plug in the power cord. Insert a cassette and rewind the tape to the beginning.
- 3). Attach the red and white RCA plugs of the RCA-to-mini-jack audio cable to the red and white RCA line-output connectors on the cassette player. Attach the mini-jack of the audio cable to the line-input mini-jack connector on the PC.
- 4). Run the audio converting software. Select "line-input" from the drop-down menu below the "Source" tab. Press the "Record" button, then press the "Pause" button.
- 5). Press the "Play" button on the cassette player. Press the "Pause" button on the audio converting software to begin converting the cassette to the PC. Press the "Pause" button again when side one of the cassette has finished playing.
- 6). Eject the cassette tray and remove the tape. Turn the cassette over, put it back in the cassette tray with side two facing outward, then press the "Play" button. Press the "Pause" button on the audio converting software to continue recording the cassette to the PC. Press the "Stop" button when side two of the cassette has finished playing.
- 7). Eject the cassette tray and remove the cassette. Turn off the cassette player. Remove the RCA-to-mini-jack audio cable from the cassette player and from the computer. Put the cassette and cassette player away.
- 8). Click the "Save" button on the audio converting software. Name the digital file that was made from the cassette in the open column in the window that appears. Click the "Save" button to close the window and save the digital file to the PC's hard drive. Quit the audio converting software once the file has been saved.
