How to Use the Paint Mate
- 1). Choose the paint that will be used in your Paint Mate. Oil based paints will require mineral spirits for cleanup. Latex paints will require warm water and soap for cleanup. Paints that require stronger chemicals for removal should not be used as they can damage the Paint Mate.
- 2). Assemble the Paint Mate by attaching the core, roller cover and cap. Attach the assembly to the arm until it snaps into the locking tab. While pressing the quick release tabs, attach the arm to the handle. Attach the shield to the roller cover segment if painting a ceiling.
- 3). Fill the Paint Mate. If you are using round 1-gallon containers, insert the small end of the fill tube through the hole of the enclosed can lid. Securely attach the lid to the paint can. To help with easy removal, apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the end of the fill tube. Press down and firmly hold the fill valve onto the fill tube. Pull the plunger; drawing the paint into the main tube. If using another type of paint container, attach the threaded lid and follow the same directions for filling as the round 1-gallon paint container.
- 4). Prime the roller by pushing the plunger forward until paint is seen on the roller cover. When additional paint is needed, squeeze the power trigger. Refill the main tube as often as needed to keep a steady flow of paint. It is best to make sure paint is always flowing through the roller cover.
- 5). Clean the Paint Mate by returning excess paint into the original container. Pull the plunger back to pull excess paint out from the roller. Press the fill valve onto the fill tube, and push the plunger forward into the paint can. Disassemble the Paint Mate. Soak the roller, roller cover, shield, cap and core in the cleaning solution. Submerge the fill tube, pulling the plunger in and out at least five times; repeat with the fill valve and roller arm and then the connecting area and fill valve. Rinse remaining parts and drain the fluids. Remember that the cleaning solution for latex paint is soap and water; and for oil based paint use mineral spirits. Dry all parts completely and store.
