    • 1). Park the 1993 Saturn SL2 and shut the engine off.

    • 2). Open the hood and locate the belt tensioner. The tensioner is located between the crankshaft pulley and the alternator. Use the bolt head in the center of the pulley that is attached to the tensioner to rotate the tensioner.

    • 3). Rotate the tensioner pulley counterclockwise with the breaker bar and a 14 mm socket. Then, pull the belt out from under the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner pulley and it will retract until it stops. Make sure that the belt does not come out of any of the other accessory pulleys.

    • 4). Turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise again until the tensioner stops. Then, continue to turn the bolt head counterclockwise until it loosens from the pulley. Once the bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley is loose, unscrew the bolt with your fingers.

    • 5). Pull the pulley straight off the bottom of the tensioner. Slide the new tensioner pulley onto the bottom of the tensioner and screw the bolt back in. Tighten the bolt very tight with the breaker bar and the 14 mm socket.

    • 6). Rotate the tensioner by turning the bolt head counterclockwise again. Then, slide the belt back under the new pulley. Release the tensioner and the tensioner pulley will pull all of the slack out of the belt. Look over the belt to make sure it is still inside of the other accessory pulleys. Also make sure that the belt is centered under the tensioner pulley.

    • 7). Crank the engine and watch the new tensioner pulley as it is turning to ensure that the pulley is operating correctly. Turn the engine off and close the hood.
