How to Biscuit Joints
- 1). Place the two pieces of wood next to each other, with two flat surfaces of the wood touching, be it at a 90 degree angle, a 45 degree angle or parallel to each other.
Mark a pencil line perpendicular to the seam between the two pieces using the pencil and the carpenter's square. - 2). Measure the height of the wood using the carpenter's square.
Adjust the height of the biscuit joiner so that it half the height of the wood, and adjust the size of the head on the joiner to accommodate the largest biscuit you can fit in the joint. - 3). Separate the two pieces of wood.
Align the notch on the end of the biscuit joiner with the pencil mark on one of the pieces of wood, then hold the joiner flush against the wood. Turn on the joiner and push it forward to create a slot for the biscuit in the wood. Repeat on the second piece of wood. - 4). Apply wood glue to the biscuit slot in one of the pieces of wood.
Insert the biscuit with your hands, then apply wood glue down the length of the joint. - 5). Align the biscuit slot in the second piece of wood with the biscuit.
Apply wood glue to the biscuit, then push the two pieces of wood together until the joint is tight. Clamp the two pieces of wood together and allow the glue to dry for several hours. Take off the clamp and the joint will hold.
