How to Make a Swirl for a Keychain
- 1). Roll out 4 oz. of polymer clay into a coil using your hands to measure ¼-inch wide, 6-inches long. Keep the coil flat on the table or desk, and wind it into a swirl. Press the end of the swirl onto itself to keep the outside edge flush. (See References 1)
- 2). Insert a toothpick into and out of the swirl to create a hole. Smooth down the edges of the hole using the tip of the toothpick.
- 3). Cut a piece of craft wire, 1-inch long, using wire cutters. Insert the wire into the hole you created in the swirl, then bend the wire into a circle using needle-nosed pliers.
- 4). Place the swirl form onto a cookie sheet, and bake the swirl in a 200-degree oven for 10 minute. Let the clay swirl cool for 30 minutes.
- 5). Paint the swirl using colored acrylic paint, then allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes. Select any color paint you prefer.
- 6). Squeeze glitter glue around the clay swirl to add detailing and interest. Add designs like spirals, swirls or dots. Let the glitter glue dry for 20 minutes.
- 7). Paint a thick layer of clear acrylic glaze over the swirl keychain to protect the paint and glitter glue and to make the finished keychain shiny. Let the glaze dry for 20 minutes.
- 8). Wind a keychain ring onto the craft wire circle to complete the swirl keychain.
