    • Resilient flooring is not a brand or type of flooring. It refers to the properties of the flooring. Resilient flooring is any type of flooring that is durable, waterproof and low-maintenance. Resilient flooring will be found in high-traffic areas of any home and in any room of a home that has pets or kids. With new materials available and improvements on old materials, there are many types of flooring to choose from that are resilient.

    Linoleum

    • In the past, linoleum was the number one choice for resilient flooring. Linoleum is durable, flexible, water-resistant, easy to clean and easy to install. With the advent of new flooring types, linoleum's popularity has waned, but it still has a following in the green market because of the materials that are used to make it.

    Vinyl

    • Vinyl flooring is has replaced linoleum as the number one type of resilient floor covering. Vinyl is very versatile and can be used in any area of the home where the homeowner needs a tough, durable, flexible and easy-to-maintain floor covering. Vinyl is nearly waterproof, which makes it great for bathroom and kitchen applications. It comes in a huge array of styles and can look like wood, concrete, block, tile or any other type of material the homeowner desires. Some vinyl floors look so real it is hard to tell them from the product they are mimicking. Another advantage vinyl flooring offers is that it is inexpensive.

    Cork

    • Cork may not come to mind as being resilient, but cork flooring is very durable. It is made from the bark of the cork tree, unlike bottle corks. Cork floors are becoming very popular due to the unique look cork offers and the fact that it is a good choice for anyone who is "green conscious." If dented, a cork floor will return to its original shape. Installation of cork flooring is simple, as it can be installed as a floating floor or nailed or glued to the subfloor.

    Vinyl Planks

    • Vinyl planks are the same as sheet vinyl, only in plank form. Vinyl planks are generally made with wood patterns in order to imitate wood flooring. This type of flooring is generally installed in a floating manner, which makes it one of the easiest floors to install because there is no need for adhesive or nails. Another advantage is that some types already have the backing already on them, so the homeowner does not have to lay down a pad.
