Uncircumcise

Definition:

Once a circumcision, the surgical and sometimes ritual removal of the foreskin from the penis, is performed it cannot be undone. The term uncircumcise, also known as uncircumcising or foreskin restoration, refers to the attempt to alter a circumcised penis so that it appears, and/or feels, as if the foreskin has been restored. Aside from surgeries performed by a plastic surgeon (which are rare) the practice of uncircumcising has never been tested clinically and isn't usually done in consultation with doctors or health care practitioners.

Uncircumcising is a practice that needs to be understood in context. Some adult men who were circumcised as infants consider the process to be at most mutilation or at least non consensual removal of a part of their body they would like back. Many of these men feel as if they are missing part of themselves and feel they are both psychologically and physically lesser for having been circumcised. They also believe that being circumcised means a reduction in sexual satisfaction and sensitivity, a topic that continues to be hotly debated. And finally, they believe that if they are able to become uncircumcised, sensitivity will be restored. While there are plenty of anecdotal reports to be found online, there is no medically or empirically documented evidence that the practice of uncircumcising has any impact on sexual sensitivity.

In 1992 a California psychologist wrote a book called The Joy of Uncircumcising! () which outlines the history of the anti-circumcision movement as well as techniques to stretch penile skin such that the head of the penis is covered, as it would be with a foreskin.

The book is out of print but there are now dozens of websites that describe how a man can, supposedly, uncircumcise his penis by stretching the skin out over time.

The term uncircumcise can be confusing as it sounds as if you are able to reverse a circumcision. But it isn't possible to grow a new foreskin, and so the practice (whether it works or not) is only changing the penis, it isn't actually restoring it to it's original state.
