Yamaha Boat Engine Oil Change Process
- 1). Ensure the motor is upright and level on your boat or motor storage stand. Thread the Yamaha garden hose adapter onto a garden hose. Connect the hose to the hose connector on the starboard side of the motor, at the bottom of the power head.
- 2). Start the motor, allowing it to run for five or 10 minutes, until it's at or near normal operating temperature. This heats the oil and helps dissolve buildup. Shut the motor down and let it cool for five or 10 minutes, to dissipate the heat from the engine.
- 3). Press downward on the lock lever at the rear of the top cowling and lift the top cowling from the motor. Take the filler cap off the oil filler, located at the center of the starboard side, pull the dipstick out of the tube and insert the hose of the oil change pump into the tube. Push the hose into the oil filler tube until you feel it "touch bottom."
- 4). Pump the oil out of the motor. Unscrew the filler cap on the front of the starboard side of the power head. Insert a funnel into the filler hole and pour the correct amount of the recommended oil into the filler hole, checking the level frequently to ensure you don't overfill the motor. Allow the engine to stand undisturbed for five to 10 minutes, so the oil can settle.
- 5). Reinsert the dipstick, remove and wipe the dipstick, insert the dipstick into the filler tube again and check the oil level once more. Start the motor to ensure the low oil light and the oil pressure lights don't suddenly begin operating. Shut the motor down after ensuring the low oil light and oil pressure light remain unlighted and disconnect the hose.
