The Tornado Kick
Think of the 540 as the evolution of the tornado kick in which you land on your kicking leg.
Note: This trick will require strength and flexibility, flexibility being the more important of the two.
If you're not familiar with this kind of movement it'd be a good idea to take the first few days of practicing easy.
When beginning this trick I was overly excited and therefore overly aggressive.
On the very first day I spent three straight hours throwing failed /mediocre tornado kicks.
The next morning I woke up with a pair of incredibly sore and incredibly useless legs.
My advice is to do lots of stretching and take it easy.
Alright set up in a standard fighting stance, legs shoulder width apart knees slightly bent with your head/eyes focused in the direction you plan on kicking.
(Due to the complexities of the rotation in this move I am going to assume your kicking with your right leg.
Feel free to reverse the instructions if you want to start off by kicking with your left.
) Alright were kicking with our right leg.
In the starting position your left leg will be in front of you in the direction of your kick.
Your right leg will be behind you.
Step 1.
The set up.
Swing your right leg out in front of you by pivoting with your left leg.
Plant your fight leg in front of you so that you've done a 180 degree turn (half of a complete circle).
Keep your head focused in front of you towards your target.
Step 2.
The take off.
This time you'll be spinning/pivoting on your right leg.
Now you can take your focus off the target.
Spin in the same direction as you've always been going.
- Lift up your left leg.
Your left will be bent and your knee up "towards" your chest.
NOT touching your chest.
Just in that general direction.
In fact your knees will be about half a foot (15 centimeters) away from your chest.
- Swing your arms up and towards the direction of your kick.
Your arms will give you a much needed momentum and lunch you into the air.
- Jump off your right foot with as much force as you can muster.
Step 3.
The actual kick.
Congratulations your air born.
Now you'll only be air born for a few seconds so read quickly!!! Now all you got to do is kick your right leg out in front of you at your target while maintaining your spin.
Step four.
The landing.
You'll be landing on your left leg, and once you've landed you'll still be spinning a bit so plant your right leg down behind you to stop your rotation.
