Spain, swept both the reverse singles matches to trump France 4-1 and Argentina trounced Serbia 3-2 to make it to the finals of the Davis Cup 2011.

Rafael Nadal, of Spain, showed no signs of weariness and made light work of Jo Wilfried Tsonga. Nadal broke in the first game of the match in his 4th break point opportunity and there on continued to stamp his authority over Tsonga exposing the Frenchman's game on the surface as he ran away with the first set 6-0. Such was the authority of Nadal that, Tsonga was struggling to win points and he never won a point on Nadal's serve in the first set. Tsonga managed to win a couple of games in the second set and made the third set slightly competitive. However, he never looked like he could challenge Nadal's game on this surface. It was game, set and match Nadal and Spain at 6-0, 6-2,6-4.

"The goal at one point (against Nadal) isn't to win the match but to win one game, then two games and then a set," Forget said. "He has the capacity to play the right shot each time while always being able to vary. You're always on the wire's edge with him."

In the second dead reverse singles, Fernando Verdasco breezed past Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-1 to complete the drubbing.

In the other semi-finals, Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro won against World No.1 Novak Djokovic, when the Serbian pulled out with the score reading 7-6, 3-0 in Del Potro's favor. Djokovic pulled out of the first match citing a back injury and the same injury bothered his serve during the match and at 0-3 down in the second set he fell to the floor with back pain and lied on the court. The team rushed to him and minutes later he decided to pull out of the match and with it, the hopes of making another Davis Cup finals.

"I feel disappointed to end this tie this way," Djokovic said. "My condition was 60 percent of what I had expected."

This was only his 3rd defeat of the season. In all probabilities, he is expected to pull out of the Shanghai Masters as well.

In the dead tie, it was a roles reversal as Juan Monaco of Argentina pulled out after he lost the first set 6-2 to Tisparevic. The rubber however, ended with a 3-2 scoreline in Argentina's favor.

Del Potro said "Spain are the favourite in the finals, but we wish to win the Davis Cup, which will be difficult for us," Del Potro said.

Spain will host Argentina in the finals in the first weekend of December.
