    • 1). Divide the floor into four equal quadrants with two intersecting lines across the middle, from the middle of each edge of the floor the middle of the edge across from it. Set a square at the intersection as you snap the lines to ensure they are 90 degrees off each other.

    • 2). Lay thin set mortar onto the middle of the floor with your notched trowel, filling one of the four corners formed by the interesting lines. Cover about 4 square feet.

    • 3). Set the first porcelain rectified tile in place at the intersection. Put the next tile next to it, setting two thin spacers between them.

    • 4). Repeat the process to lay more tiles, building out from the interection in a grid pattern. After you've laid three or four tiles, set your straight two-by-four board over them, on its narrow edge. Use your rubber mallet to tap the board and get the tops of the tiles even with each other.

    • 5). Spread more mortar and lay more tiles, working your way out toward the walls. Even out the tiles after every three or four of them, using the board and mallet. Tile the whole floor, cutting the tiles around the edges as needed on your tile cutter.

    • 6). Let the mortar dry for 12 hours. Remove the spacers.

    • 7). Grout the floor with unsanded grout, using your grout float to press it into the spaces between the tiles, while scraping it off the surface. Wipe up the residual grout with a damp sponge. Let it set for one to two days.
