Detroit, Michigan, secured its place in American culture by creating the Motown sound and the U.S. auto industry. In recent years, with the decline of auto factories, Detroit has gained the reputation of a declining, forgotten city. However, the city holds numerous major events each year that attract thousands of visitors from across America, and across the world. - Detroit's first auto show was held in December 1907. Since then, there has been an auto show most years in the city. In 1987, the committee members decided to include non-U.S. cars in the auto show, giving it the current name. In 2010, the North American International Auto Show unveiled almost 40 vehicles in front of media from at least 60 countries. The show's charity preview black-tie gala raises money each year for various charities.
