    Picture Frames

    • Use some old wood to make picture frames. Almost any type of wood can be used, including old decorative moldings and pine. If necessary, cut the old wood to an appropriate width and then cut the pieces of wood to the necessary length for putting together four pieces to form a frame. Using a chop saw or a miter saw works great for this project, as you can easily make corners in the wood that will fit together. Router an edge at the back of the picture frame to hold glass, if you desire. Purchase and install hardware to hang the picture on the wall.

    Headboards

    • Make a headboard using a large piece or several slabs of old wood attached together. When using slabs of wood, attach them to look like a picket fence or butt them up against each other to form a tight-looking fence. Using old doors or shutters for a headboard is also a great way to recycle old wood. Use a Hollywood frame with your mattress and then 4-inch screws to attach the headboard to the frame. Another option for the headboard would be to attach it to the wall with flush mounts.

    Flower Boxes

    • Create flower boxes for your home with old wood. Measure the width of your window or porch railings and make flower boxes to fit. The pieces of wood will need to fit together tightly in order to hold soil and water. Inserting plastic containers inside the wood boxes will help make the boxes waterproof and protect them for years to come. Attach these directly to a windowsill, railing or to hooks that can slip over sills and railings.

    Birdhouses

    • Birdhouses are one more project that you can build to use up old wood. Birdhouses come in all shapes and sizes. Different types of birds like different types of houses, allowing you to make a variety of houses to attract a variety of birds to your yard. Use barn board or any other wood that you have lying around.
