    Faucet Cartridge Removal

    • To remove the cartridge in the faucet, take off the handle by unscrewing the setscrew beneath the lever handle. All Delta faucets use an Allen-type screw as a setscrew, so you'll need an Allen wrench to remove it. Delta handles usually slide right off. If you find the handle difficult to remove, use a handle pulling tool.

    Delta Faucet Parts

    • The Delta faucet has several parts holding the cartridge in place. The trim sleeve is a long tube-shaped part that fits over the cartridge, and the bonnet is a round threaded nut that screws onto the base of the shower. To access the cartridge, remove both of these parts by twisting and pulling them off. You'll find an O-ring at the base of the trim sleeve. Replace the ring if it appears worn or cracked.

    Cartridge Parts

    • Inside the body of the faucet is the cartridge. To replace it, you have to remove it, so pull it out with your hands. Two more parts inside the faucet remain: the seat springs. Take them out with the edge of a screwdriver. To fix your leak, replace the seat springs and install a new cartridge, then rebuild the faucet by replacing all the parts. Some models have a round trim plate that needs to be removed to gain access to the shower cartridge.

    Scald Guards

    • The Monitor Delta faucet has a scald guard under the handle, called a rotational limit stop. The part is right under a cap on top of the handle base. You can unscrew the lever handle and slide the entire handle base off the faucet to repair the leak. If you want to adjust the rotational limit stop, pry off the cap and turn the limit stop to set the temperature. Replace the cartridge first before you adjust the faucet temperature.
