Three-year-old boys are busy little guys. They explore the world through mimicking other's actions and are always on the move. Purchase gifts that encourages imaginative play, creativity and learning through activity. These gifts not only will keep him occupied, but help him learn. - Three-year-olds live in a world in which they have very little control. They might pick out their own clothes and voice their opinions about dinner, but the big issues are left up to the parents. Give your boy what he desires most: a place in which he is the boss. Tents and playhouses fit the bill and make wonderful gifts. The same goal can be accomplished with less expense by making a tent out of an old sheet or turning a large appliance box turned into his own little castle. Let him decorate it and choose the objects wants inside. Three-year-olds like to mimic adult behavior, so outfit the house with toddler-size broom and dustpan to encourage him to keep a neat space. This can also be the place little guy spends time when he needs some peace and quiet.
- Toddlers explore their world by copying what they see. With this in mind, a costume chest makes a wonderful gift. You can outfit his pretend world with things you have on hand, such as dad's old shirts and ties, or purchase store costumes. Check out online sellers, consignment shops and stores with post-Halloween sales for the best deals on ready-made costumes. Let him dress up and create a whole new world that you both can explore. Encourage friends and relatives to contribute to the chest and there will always be a new character waiting inside.
- Prepare yourself for rainy days by asking loved ones to give your son a gift card to an arts and craft store. Next time the weather prohibits outdoor play, head to the store and let your little guy pick out his own crafts--be sure to limit him to ones in his age range. Crafts encourage him to be creative and develop fine motor skills. Other gifts that come in handy are passes for your favorite children's museum or children's gym. Keep in mind that three-year-olds often repeat activities so that they can learn from them, so don't be afraid to make repeat visits.
