Sin: A Spiritual Roadblock
It calls it a rebellion against God.
In other areas, it is called the "missing of mark" or falling below the standard required by God.
In its simplest term, sin means the breaking of God's laws, or putting up a behaviour that is against the principles of morality.
Someone is said to be living in sin when he/she engages in immoral acts such as telling a lie, stealing, adultery and engaging in other things like pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, slot, etc.
God expects every sinner to repent from sin and forsake the sins completely.
Repentance from sin means more than being sorry.
It actually means "about turn", that is changing one's direction, being sorry enough to give up the old aims and finding new and better ones.
God promises His children good things in life only if they could keep His commandments.
When we sin, we not only sin against ourselves and the society in which we live, we equally sin against God.
Our sins then block the ways of God's blessings to us.
Just as roadblocks prevent people from having a free pass, sin blocks our ways from receiving from God.
Another thing that can explain what sin does in our lives is a smear on a window.
Smears block our vision; they prevent us from seeing clearly.
When we wipe off the smears from the windows and then make it clean, we suddenly see the beauty we have been missing.
"Pure" is another word for clean (Matthew 5:8).
It can only happen to a person who has changed his sinful ways to follow Jesus.
You can experience it now when you accept God's rule over your life.
Your defeatist attitude can also change.
Jesus was tough with smug people who would not face their need for change.
But with others it was His caring that brought honesty on their part (Luke 19:1-10).
The Bible indicates that in Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
People who have received the Lord Jesus as Saviour enjoy freedom from sin's eternal condemnation (Romans 8:1), and can also have daily forgiveness and cleansing (1 John 1:9).
Salvation provides other added benefits like justification, and being at peace with God.
Therefore, we should never have the idea that our sins are taken lightly by the Lord.
When we acknowledge our guilt with true repentance, God is ready to forgive because of what Jesus did on the cross.
It is up to you to accept it.
When God forgives a sin, He never brings it up again.
The barriers or roadblocks are forever and completely broken or taken away, so that His blessings will actually flow freely.
Are you still indulging in any kind of sin? You are blocking your blessings from God.
Repent, confess and forsake that sin TODAY and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour then you shall have peace!
