    • 1). Turn off the water to the bathtub either by closing the shutoff valves at the control panel on the wall behind the bathtub's plumbing or by closing the house's master water control valve. Open and close the bathtub's faucet to make sure the water has been shut off and to relieve any water pressure in the pipes.

    • 2). Place a rag overt the bathtub's drain to keep any parts from falling into it. Use a small pocketknife to pry out the decorative cap in the middle of the faucet's handle.

    • 3). Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the retaining screw in the middle of the handle. Pull the handle off the assembly. Unscrew any parts that still sit over the faucet's cartridge, ceramic disc or ball assembly.

    • 4). Remove the cartridge, ceramic disc assembly or ball assembly from the faucet. Slide in a new cartridge, or replace the wearable parts on the ceramic or ball assembly, applying plumber's grease to the new parts.

    • 5). Reassemble the faucet in the reverse order that you took it apart. Take the rag off the drain and turn the water to the bathtub back on.
