How to Install a Soapdish in Tile
- 1). Place the soapdish in the opening to check the fit before beginning. Most soapdishes are available in lengths of 4, 6 or 8 inches to fit most wall tile applications.
- 2). Spread a thin layer of mortar onto the back of the soapdish with a trowel. Ensure the the entire back of the soapdish is covered with the mortar. Many ceramic soapdishes have a hole in the back, with the interior being hollow. If this is the case, spread the mortar around the hole.
- 3). Press the soapdish into the space in the tile. Hold it firmly in place for a moment until the mortar begins to grab. Use long pieces of masking tape to tape the soap dish to the tile around it until the mortar dries overnight.
- 4). Squeeze a thin line of caulk around the edge of the soapdish to seal out water. Use your fingertip to smooth the caulk into place, sealing all the edges of the tile and the soapdish.
