How to Connect the Emotiva XPA-2 to a Denon 4308
- 1). Set your AVR-4308 to an unused source. This will protect your speakers in the future.
- 2). Turn off both the AVR 4308 and the XPA-2. It is also a good idea to turn off every other component in your home theater system, just in case.
- 3). Connect the desired "pre-amp out" terminals of your AVR-4308CI to the two "Un-Bal" inputs on the XPA-2 using a pair of analog interconnect cables with phono plugs on each end. The Denon's pre-amplifier out terminals are located just slightly to the right of the absolute center of the back panel. The XPA-2's inputs are located on the top row of its back panel, on either side of the "Bridged Configuration" switch. Typically, you would connect Denon's white "FL" output to the XPA-2's "Un-Bal L" input and the Denon's red "FR" output to the XPA-2's "Un-Bal R" input.
- 4). Switch both of the XPA-2's "Un-Bal/Bal" switches to the "Un-Bal" position. Ensure that it's "Bridged Configuration" switch is set to the off position.
- 5). Remove the speaker wires for the two channels that you will be amplifying with the XPA-2 from the Denon. To do this, twist the terminals to unlock the wires and pull them out. Pay careful attention of which pair of wires corresponds to which speaker and which wire is the positive and which is the negative terminal.
- 6). Connect the speaker wires to the XPA-2, keeping the polarities the same. Make sure that you connect the right speaker's wire to the right channel and the left's to the left.
- 7). Power on your AVR-4308 and turn the volume all of the way down.
- 8). Turn on every other component, with the XPA-2 being the last one that you turn on.
- 9). Switch your AVR-4308CI to a source which has a surround-sound signal and gradually turn the volume up to your normal listening level. While you do this, listen for any clicks or hums which may indicate that you need to reconnect the amplifier.
