How to Remove Ferrules
- 1). Turn off all power from any source leading to the connected ferrule.
- 2). Apply heat to the insulation surrounding the ferrule with a heat gun or by holding it three or more inches above an open flame. The heat will soften the insulation and make removal easier.
- 3). Slide the tip of a small standard screwdriver or ferrule removal tool under the edge of the insulation that surrounds the ferrule.
- 4). Squeeze the sides of the still warm ferrule with a pair of pliers or a ferrule crimping tool. Try to roll the ferrule as you crimp to return the inner lining to a round shape.
- 5). Pry away the insulation to further loosen the ferrules connection. Remove the ferrule completely by holding it between the pliers or crimping tool and sliding it off.
