Instructions to Do Picot Edging for Crochet

    On Crocheted Work

    • 1). Insert the crochet hook through a stitch in one corner of your work. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it back through the stitch to form a loop on your hook.

    • 2). Work a row of single crochet evenly along the edge of the piece. Work three single crochet in corner stitches to turn the corner if necessary. Work one single crochet in the end of each row along the sides, and one single crochet in each stitch along the top and bottom. Join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet.

    • 3). Chain one. *Work one single crochet in each of next two single crochet stitches. Work one single crochet, chain three, one single crochet in the next stitch.* Repeat the stitches between the asterisks all the way around your work. Cut the yarn and pull the end through the loop to finish off.

    Pillow or Handkerchief Edging

    • 1). Thread tapestry needle with crochet thread. Sew a row of blanket stitches around the edge of the handkerchief or pillow case.

    • 2). Attach the crochet thread in one of the blanket stitches. Work one single crochet stitch in each blanket stitch. Work two single crochet stitches, chain two, two single crochet stitches in each corner stitch for handkerchief edging. Join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet.

    • 3). Chain one. *Work one single crochet in each of the next two single crochet stitches. Work one single crochet, chain three, one single crochet in the next stitch.* Repeat the stitches between the asterisks until you reach the first stitch.

    • 4). Slip stitch into the first single crochet. Cut the thread and pull the end through the loop on the hook to end off. Weave the end in to finish neatly.
