How to Teach Christian Character to Kids
- 1). Show your children Bible passages about character. For example, if you want your teenage daughter to learn how to manage money with integrity, show her passages such as Proverbs 27:12, where King Solomon tells people to budget their earnings and plan their finances wisely. Also mention 1 Timothy 6, where the apostle Paul warns people against becoming obsessed with riches and making an idol out of them.
- 2). Discipline your children. If your child verbally disrespected his father, sit with him and mention that because he violated God's command to honor parents, you and your spouse will punish him by not letting him play outside or hang out with friends for a few days. Or if your daughter stole her brother's allowance, make her do chores so she can earn money to pay the brother back.
- 3). Set the example for your children. If you want your children to have a humble attitude and serve those who are in need, set aside one day out of the week to visit a homeless shelter or hospital with your children to give material goods and emotional support to the people there. Or if you want your son to treat women with respect, let him see you treat his mother and other females the same way.
