    • 1). Clear all the furniture out of the room. Take down all the wall hangings such as sconces, mirrors and pictures.

    • 2). Spread drop cloths over the floor to protect it. Set a ladder or stool along one wall and begin to tape off the molding under the ceiling or where the wall meets the ceiling with painter's tape. Continue to tape around the entire room.

    • 3). Plug an extension cord into an electrical outlet. Attach medium-grit sandpaper to an orbital sander.

    • 4). Put on goggles and a dust mask. Climb onto a ladder or stool and sand the stucco ceiling to remove the old paint and rough the surface. Sand over the entire stucco ceiling to ready it for repainting.

    • 5). Fill a paint tray with primer. Place a roller with an extension handle in the primer and apply a coat of primer to the stucco ceiling. Let dry for about four hours or as long as directed by the manufacturer.

    • 6). Clean the roller and paint tray with mineral spirits. Rinse with water and allow to air dry. Fill the paint tray with an interior paint of your choosing, then apply the first coat of paint to the stucco ceiling with the roller.

    • 7). Clean the paint tray with mineral spirits, along with the roller while the first coat dries. Rinse both with water and air dry, then apply the second coat of paint to the stucco ceiling to finish.
