Open the computer. Remove the side panel if you are installing memory in your desktop computer, and remove the access panel that covers the memory slots (the panel may be marked "RAM") if you are installing memory on a notebook computer. Some notebook computers have memory slots under their motherboards. - 2

Remove any memory chips you will be replacing and set them to the side. Pay attention to the way in which the chip is situated in order to prevent any difficulty in inserting your new memory. - 3). Slide the memory chip into the open slot. Align any grooves or notches with corresponding pegs or ridges in the memory slot.
- 4). Press the chip into the slot firmly but gently. The chip should slide in with minimal resistance. If it is difficult to insert into the slot, remove it, check for any components that are in the way, and ensure that the chip is oriented in the correct direction.
- 5). Engage any retaining clips and lock down the chip.
- 6). Close your computer and boot it. Watch the startup screen and check within the computer's operating system to make sure the memory is being detected. If it is not, repeat Steps 1-5. If the memory is still not being detected, contact technical support.
