How to Make a DVD-9 Fit Into a DVD-5
- 1). Download a program that allows you to rip and copy DVD-9 movies. Applications include AVS DVD Copy, DVD Cloner and DVDFab (see Resources).
- 2). Click “Start” and “Computer.” Open the folder where you saved the setup file for the DVD copy/ripper program. Double-click the setup file and follow the on-screen instructions in the setup wizard. After installing the DVD copy program, restart the computer if prompted.
- 3). Launch the DVD copy/ripper program on your computer. Insert the DVD-9 movie you want to copy to a DVD-5 disc into the DVD burner or DVD-ROM drive. When the Windows AutoPlay window pops up, close it.
- 4). Click the “Add” or “Browse” button on the DVD copy program toolbar. Select the drive letter for the DVD drive holding the DVD-9 disc and click the “OK” or “Open” button.
- 5). Click the “Copy Options” or “Output Options” drop-down list or toolbar link in the DVD copy program. Select the “Movie Only,” “Video Only” or “Without Extras” option.
- 6). Insert a blank DVD-5 disc into the DVD burner drive. Again, if the AutoPlay window appears, close it.
- 7). Click the “Burner Drive,” “Output Drive” or “Copy To” link on the copy program toolbar. Select the drive letter for your DVD burner drive containing the blank DVD-5 disc.
- 8). Select a folder for storing temporary files if prompted by the program. Some DVD copy/ripper applications required that you specify a folder for copying movie data before actually burning it to disc. Even if the application uses a temporary storage file, though, it deletes the data after writing it to the blank disc.
- 9). Click the “Output Size” “Preferred Size” or “Output Size” drop-down list link on the toolbar. Click and select the “Single DVD5 Disc,” “Standard DVD” or “Single 4.7GB File” option.
- 10
Click the “Burn” or “Copy” link on the toolbar. Wait as the DVD copy/ripper program copies the movie data file to memory and then to the blank DVD-5 disc. Depending on the speed of your computer and the size of the movie file on the DVD-9 disc, the copy process might take minutes or a couple of hours. - 11
Remove the new DVD-5 disc from the burner drive when prompted. Use the disc in a standard DVD player as you normally would. When playing the DVD, only the movie file is viewable -- menu options or extras are not included on the new DVD-5 disc.
