How to Restore an Active Desktop.HTT File

    • 1). Click "My Computer" on your desktop. Double click the "C:\" folder. Navigate to C:\Profiles\<your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Replace "<your username>" with the username that you use to log in to your Windows computer.

    • 2). Locate the "Desktop.htt" file. Either rename this file to "Desktop.htt.old" or delete it.

    • 3). Right click the desktop and choose "Refresh." The HTT file is created in the file directory automatically. Verify that the new file exists in the directory opened in Step 1 and close the Explorer window.
