How Do I Hook Sound Speakers Up to My Computer?
- 1). Turn off the power to your computer. Slide the machine forward from its resting place so you can easily reach the back.
- 2). Locate the sound card on your machine that is identifiable by two or three color-coded ports. These ports are small enough for speaker jacks to be plugged into them. You may notice a small icon above each port that identifies them as microphone, headphone and antenna.
- 3). Route the speaker wires around your computer equipment so that the speaker wires can be plugged into the sound card. Speaker systems that contain a subwoofer have a slightly different wiring process. The left and right speakers are plugged into the subwoofer before a connection to the computer's sound card is made.
- 4). Plug the green speaker jack from the speaker system into the green audio port on the sound card. If your speaker system has a built-in microphone, plug the pink cord from it into the pink port on the sound card.
- 5). Plug in the power cord. Some speaker systems rely on power from the computer while others come with a power adapter. Make sure all the connections are secure. Turn on the computer. Run any installation disks that came with your speaker system. Many speaker systems are plug-and-play compatible and do not need installation from a disc.
- 6). Play an audio or video file to test the speakers. Speaker systems with a subwoofer have a manual bass control dial that can be turned up or down according to preference. Recheck the connections on all wires if a speaker isn't working correctly.
- 7). Adjust the volume and sound control options in Windows by double-clicking the sound icon in the task bar. Slide the slider adjustment bars up and down until your reach the desired tone.
