Weight Limits for a Bell Two-Seat Bike Trailer

    Weight

    • Bell bicycle trailers are built to haul loads that do not exceed 100 pounds. The two seats in the trailer can be used to transport two children, pets, toy, or cargo. What is in the trailer does not matter as long as the cargo does not exceed the weight limit. How the weight is distributed, however, is important. The heaviest child or item should be placed on the hitch side of the trailer. In the event of the trailer tipping, it will tip toward the hitch. This arrangement would help the lighter child or items not be in danger of being crushed by the heavier child.

    Helmets

    • Helmets have become a standard safety accessory for all bicycle riders. This includes passengers in a Bell bicycle trailer. Although the trailers have a low center of gravity with less distance to fall in the event of an accident, it is still recommended that trailer passengers wear helmets at all times to help prevent an injury.

    Age Limits

    • Although the weight limit is 100 pounds, the trailers are not designed for children under the age of 1. While it might be tempting to place a child in a car seat and then in a trailer, this is not recommended as the trailer's suspension system is not developed enough to prevent an infant from being overly shaken. Children over the age of 4 are also considered too large for a Bell bicycle trailer, no matter their weight.

    Security

    • Bell bicycle trailers are designed for children to be strapped in comfortably with enough room to bring along items to keep them entertained. However, care should be taken to close the trailer completely. Visibility for a child is poor in the trailer, but opening it up to provide a better view exposes the child to dangerous moving parts.
