How to Use Window Glass for Tiles
- 1). Cut the window glass into squares if you would like a more traditional tile look. For a mosaic style, place the window glass between the layers of a folded towel and smash it with a hammer into pieces of whatever size is preferred.
- 2). Spread mortar on the space to be tiled. Use the flat side of the trowel to do this. Since the glass is transparent, using a grooved side will leave visible lines.
- 3). Place the glass pieces in a pattern in the mortar just deep enough so that the glass sits just above the surface. Allow the mortar to dry for several hours. Time will vary depending on the brand of mortar used.
- 4). Spread grout over the dry mortar and glass pieces. This should be a thin layer that does not cover the glass but fills the spaces between the glass pieces so that the top of the glass is flush with the grout. Wipe off excess grout with a damp sponge. Allow the grout to dry. Time will vary depending on the brand and type of grout used.
