How to Create a LAN Email System

1Click the Start menu and select "Control Panel."

Click "Classic View" in the left pane.

Double-click "Add or Remove programs."

Click the link "Add/Remove Windows Components" in the left pane.

Choose "Application Server" under "Components."

Click "Details."

Choose the option "Internet Information Services (IIS)" under "Subcomponents of Application Server."

Click "Details."

Place a check mark next to "SMTP Service" under "Subcomponents of Internet Information Services (IIS)." Click "OK."

Click "Next." Click "Finish" to set up your SMTP mail server.

Click the Start menu and select "Administrative Tools."

Click to launch "Internet Information Services (IIS)."

Locate your SMTP server in the root menu in the left pane. Right-click the folder and select "Properties."

Click the "General" tab.

Type the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your server. Contact your system administrator if you are unsure about your IP address.

Click "Connection."

Click the "Add" button.

Type your server IP address once again. Click "OK."

Launch the Microsoft Outlook email client. You also may use Outlook Express (OE).

Click "Tools" and select "Account Settings." Click the "Email" tab.

Single-click to highlight your existing email account and click the "Change..." button.

Type your server's IP address in the box next to "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" underneath the subheading "Server Information."

Click "OK" to end task.
