Blackwater Falls in Davis, West Virginia, is one of the most photographed sites in the state. The falls get its name from the amber water of the Blackwater River, colored by the tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. These majestic falls plummet five stories into a meandering eight-mile gorge below. Blackwater Falls State Park has a variety of activities year-round, such as fishing, swimming, hiking, boating, skiing and sledding. - For visitors wishing to stay within the park, Blackwater Falls offers 26 furnished cabins, with wood paneling, an open fireplace, a full kitchen and a full bath with shower. The cabins, in a wooded area about a mile from the park's main lodge, are available year-round. Travelers with pets can reserve one of the three pet-friendly cabins, first come, first served. Reservations are accepted up to one year in advance, and senior citizens get a discount on their stay.
