Portland, Oregon has a number of activities for visitors to experience. Culture, history and the natural world are all celebrated. The city also enjoys first-class restaurants, hotels, shopping and entertainment. Portland has also gained a reputation for being one of the most environmentally concerned cities in the United States. - The Portland Children's Museum has various themed areas for activities designed for fun and learning. Children learn how to make objects out of clay, run a puppet theater and join in construction projects. Children are encouraged to write stories and they hear stories in the indoor treehouse. Babies to three-year-olds have their own area in the Baby's Garden, an area that stimulates all the senses.

Exhibits include endangered tigers and leopards from Russia's Far East, orangutans and gibbons, polar bears and penguins. Other attractions include a walk through open-air aviary with lorikeets and an insect zoo. The African Rainforest area has bats, tropical birds and crocodiles and the Great Northwest Exhibit contains black bears, beavers, cougars, elk and grey wolves. The exhibits are set in landscaped gardens.

The collection includes artwork from prehistoric times to contemporary works. The museum is known for its impressive collection of Native American art objects and its collection of English silver. One of the galleries is devoted to artists from Oregon, Montana, Washington, Wyoming and Idaho. Other collections include photography, Japanese, Chinese and Korean artwork, and American painting and sculpture.

Visitors can book skating lessons at the park's roller skating rink and there are lovely grassed areas for family picnics. Thrill rides include The Spider, The Looping Thunder Roller Coaster and the 1950s themed Rock & Roll. There are plenty of family rides, including a 1912 made carousel, bumper cars, go-carts and a Ferris wheel.

Native trees, plants, bridges, arbors and pagodas are beautifully presented. Guided tours operate throughout the year and booking isn't necessary.
