With summer winding down, September is all about the fairs, festivals and carnivals. Go play outside during the day this month, or take advantage of the warm evenings for a while longer with a concert or pool party. With one holiday-themed event already slipped into this list of things to do around town, summer will be over before we know it!

2nd Annual African Cultural Festival

Saturday, September 1 – 9:00am-6:00pm

William Land Park, Sacramento

African heritage abounds at this festival that celebrates the diversity of Africans living both in the United States and overseas. From crafts for sale to traditional music and dance, there is something for someone from walk of life at this event that benefits a 501(c)3 organization.

Summer Splash Children’s Carnival

Sunday, September 16 – 12:00pm-4:00pm

Natomas Racquet Club, Natomas

The pools are all closing for fall, but the swimming is still on at Natomas Racquet Club. At this special event, tickets are $8 for kids in advance, or $10 at the door. Those under age 3 and adults are free. Non-members are welcome to experience this event that includes swimming, carnival games, laser tag and more.

Sacramento Convoy of Hope: A Day of Hope

Saturday, September 15 – 10:00am-3:00pm

Come volunteer at this charity event that is distributing free food, haircuts, health screenings and more. Convoy of Hope is counting on the public to assist with these things, plus a family portrait station, a job fair, a lineup of live entertainment and a barbecue lunch.

First Friday at the Fountains at Roseville

Friday, September 7 – 6:00pm-10:00pm

Come out for the final First Friday in the summer series at the Fountains. With entertainment, booths, children’s characters and face painting there is plenty for the entire family to do. This is just a sampling of the great things happening in Roseville along with the chance to peruse the grounds and various stores at the Fountains itself.

Romanian Festival

Saturday, September 29 – 12:00pm-7:00pm

Royer Park, Roseville

The Romanian Festival is a great opportunity for people from all walks of life to come out and enjoy entertainment, food and form new friendships. Learn all about this Eastern European community, many of which are living in and around the Sacramento area. Plenty of learning opportunities for kids, as well as unique sights and sounds for everyone.

Pups in the Park

Saturday, September 15 – 9:00am-11:00am

McKinley Park, Sacramento

This gathering featuring plenty of four legged friends, their owners and Guest MC Uncle Matty from the PBS TV show Woof! It’s a Dog’s Life is a wonderful opportunity for both you and your favorite pup to connect with friends and enjoy one of the last days of summer outdoors. Event includes a silent auction, food and live music, and on-site pet adoptions. Enter your pet in the parade and costume contest for a nominal entry fee, or simply come and enjoy yourself for free.

It’s Just Your Style: VIP Open House & Mini Bridal Fair

Tuesday, September 18 – 6:00pm-8:00pm

Claudia Marie Design, Folsom

Every third Tuesday of the month, Claudia Marie Design offers an open house and mini bridal fair with the collaborative efforts of other regional vendors. From door prizes and samples to fashion shows and engagement party ideas, every bride-to-be will love to check out the September installment of this monthly soiree.

Carmichael’s One Hundred and Third Founders Day

Saturday, September 22 – 10:00am

Carmichael Park, Carmichael

Founders Day is an annual tradition in Carmichael, where they emphasize the small town feel that has kept many living there for generations. Start off the day with a pancake breakfast, a classic car show and plenty of vendor booths filled with activities, food and entertainment.

Candy Cane Lane Craft Show

Thursday, September 27 – 3:00pm-8:00pm

St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, Elk Grove

Put on by Crafty Treasures, a group of creative women that hold several craft faires throughout the Sacramento area each year, this way-before-Christmas treat is a great way to get a jump on home décor and gifts for the holidays. Hosted this time at a local orthodox church, this event also includes Greek food and pastries for a small fee.
