• The quaint village of Rhinebeck, New York offers boutique shopping, fine dining, arts and entertainment. Located along Route 9, Rhinebeck is home to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, which hosts the Hudson Valley Food & Wine Fest in September and the New York State Sheep & Wool Festival in October, among other events. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

• The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a museum of antique airplanes that was founded by Cole Palen in 1959. Palen purchased several World War I planes, including a Curtiss Jenny, Standard J-l, Aeromarine 39B and Sopwith Snipe, from Roosevelt Aviation School and brought the planes to Rhinebeck. On summer weekends, the Aerodrome holds air shows with the antique aircraft. Saturday shows focus on the history of aviation and early planes; Sunday events showcase World War I planes. Air shows and biplane rides are held every weekend from June to October.

Northern Dutchess Botanical Gardens

• The Northern Dutchess Botanical Gardens is a garden nursery and garden open for display and plant sales. The gardens display heirloom produce, water lilies, day lilies, lotus plants, hostas and other edible and flowering plants. The Northern Dutchess Botanical Gardens attraction has greenhouses and display gardens, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

Wilderstein Historic Site

• The Wilderstein Historic Site is an elegant estate house that belonged to the Suckley family. The opulently decorated home was originally constructed as an Italianiate villa and then remodeled as a Queen Elizabeth country home. Wilderstein's grounds feature rambling pathways, trails, garden benches and ornamental plants. Wilderstein House is open for tours Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
