    External Microdrive Installation

    • 1). Plug the CompactFlash card reader into one of the USB ports on the back of your computer. If the card reader includes a power cord, plug this into a wall outlet. The reader is detected by the computer automatically.

    • 2). Insert the Microdrive into the CompactFlash slot.

    • 3). Double click "My Computer" on the Windows desktop. You will see the Microdrive listed in this window. Double click it to access the drive.

    Internal Microdrive Installation

    • 1). Shut the computer down completely and unplug the power cable from the wall.

    • 2). Open the computer case.

    • 3). Insert the Microdrive into the CF-to-IDE adapter.

    • 4). Insert the IDE data cable into the CF-to-IDE adapter, then find the IDE ports on your motherboard. The ports will look like the one on the back of the adapter, with two rows of 20 pins each. Insert the other end of the data cable into one of these ports.

    • 5). Connect a Molex power plug into the back of the CF-to-IDE adapter. Molex plugs can be found coming out of the computer's power supply, located in the back of the computer case. A Molex connector has four pins, and generally has red, yellow, and black wires.

    • 6). Secure the adapter and Microdrive to the inside of the computer case using electrical or Velcro tape. Close the computer, and reconnect the power cable.

    • 7). Turn the computer on. The Microdrive will be detected by the computer as a standard hard drive.
