How to Cut Scape on Hostas
- 1). Hold the scape beneath the developing seed pods. Most hostas produce multiple scapes.
- 2). Cut off the scape at its base where it emerges from the main part of the plant. Use clean shears for scape removal and make a clean cut. Pulling or twisting the scape may damage the surrounding leaves or the crown of the hosta.
- 3). Remove each scape after flowering completes. The scapes may finish blooming on different days. Either prune the scapes individually or wait until all the scapes finish flowering and prune them all on the same day.
