How to Change the Password in Windows XP

    • 1). Sign in to your Windows XP user account.

    • 2). Click "Start" in the taskbar.

    • 3). Highlight and open "Control Panel." The Control Panel window will open.

    • 4). Select "User Accounts." The window on the screen will turn into the User Accounts window.

    • 5). Click the "User Accounts" link at the bottom of the window. A new window will open.

    • 6). Choose the account that you wish to change from the accounts listed at the bottom of the window. Once you do, the window for that particular user account will open.

    • 7). Click "Change my password" to get to the password window for the user account.

    • 8). Type the current password for that Windows XP account in the "Type your current password" box.

    • 9). Enter in the new password in both the "Type a new password" text box and the "Type the new password again to confirm" text box.

      Type a hint for the new Windows XP password in the "Type a word or phrase to use as a password hint" text box.

      Click the "Change Password" button to finish.
