How to Draw Spiderman Pictures
- 1). Collect reference pictures of Spider-Man in various poses. Choose a dramatic pose such as Spider-Man swinging through the air or being knocked back from a punch.
- 2). Draw the lines of action. The lines of action are imaginary lines that represent the line of movement of a figure. Spider-Man's spine is an example of a line of action. Draw the line of his spine; notice how his spine curves in the reference photos. Draw that curve. Create lines of action for the legs and arms. If he's holding a rope made of web with both hands, and his hands are above his head, the line of action for his arms will look like a raindrop as they clasp together to grip the rope. All of the lines of action will eventually be connected to form a stick figure minus the head.
- 3). Add circles to the stick figure. Connect the shoulder joints to the arms and the shoulder blades with smaller circles at the joint. Do the same for the knees. Draw an horizontal oval for his hips. Add an egg-shaped oval to the rib cage area with the heavier side of the egg at the bottom.
- 4). Scribble in the details of his body. Artists call this technique gesture drawing. Make scribble marks to flesh out the shape of his body. Notice how the lines of your reference picture curve to create the form of Spider-Man's body. Recreate these curved lines on your paper. Add another, more precise line next to it if you do not get the line right. Do this until the correct outline of his body emerges through all the scribbling. Create his face and the spider on his chest this way as well. You will end up with more lines than you need.
- 5). Erase the extra lines on Spider-Man's body. Look at the sketch you have drawn. Pick out the most accurate of the scribble lines. You will know which ones to choose, because the drawing will not look right if they are removed.
- 6). Scribble in the placement of the webbing on his suit and the shading that forms the muscles of his body. Scribble to capture the lines, shapes and patterns that create these details just as you did to create his body.
- 7). Erase the extra lines. Fill in the rest of the details of Spider-Man's body. Reinforce the lines that you want to keep after you have erased the extra lines.
