How to Paint Water Supply Lines to a Claw Foot Tub
- 1). Turn off the water supply valves for the water lines. These may be located in a compartment behind the wall or in the closet. If you cannot locate the compartment, go to the basement, locate the main water supply line and shut it off.
- 2). Gently sand the surface of the pipes to remove rust and to make the surface rough to allow for better paint adhesion.
- 3). Wipe down the pipes with the cloth to clean away grit and dust.
- 4). Dip the first brush into the primer, and apply the primer in long strokes following the bends of the pipes. Allow the primer to dry before proceeding.
- 5). Dip a paintbrush in the paint can. Apply the paint across the surface of the pipe. For sections of the pipe that are vertical, use long downward strokes going from top to bottom. For horizontal sections, use long strokes from one side to the other. Repeat these strokes on all sides of the pipes. Use small strokes to get bends and short sections of the pipe. Allow the first coat to dry.
- 6). Apply a second coat if needed following the same method as in steps 4 and 5.
