How to Turn in Illegal Bobcat Kills
- 1). Write down everything you know about the illegal bobcat kill. Note the time and place. Write down how you discovered the carcass and if it is still in the same location, if known. Report if the bobcat was skinned, as the animal's pelts often are illegally traded.
- 2). Note the hunter's identity, if known, or write down every detail of the hunter's appearance that you can recall. Include identifying details, such as height, weight and clothing, as well as hunting equipment used and information on the hunter's vehicle.
- 3). Contact your state's department of wildlife. The exact name of the department varies by state, but most will have "fish and wildlife" or "fish and game" in the title. Look on your state's web page for a list of state departments or find the correct link from the Fish and Wildlife Service site in References.
- 4). Notify the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with information on illegal bobcat kills. The agency maintains a list of state field offices at its website. Alternatively, call 1-800-344-WILD (9453), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
- 5). Give every detail that you gathered to the wildlife officers. More information means the officers have a better chance at catching the illegal hunter.
