The Bottom Line

Although both features are dubbed "The Movie", don't expect several hours of watching time unless you include the DVD extras. These are actually short flicks, but they're still well worth your time. CLAMP uses the double-feature DVD to tie these to storylines together and does it with some brilliant animation, worthy of the CLAMP name. Will it take up an afternoon? No. Will you love it anyway?

Guide Review - Tsubasa - xxxHolic DVD Double Feature - Anime Review

The CLAMP double-feature includes two mini-movies: Tsubasa The Movie: The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom and xxxHolic The Movie: A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Both are great individually but they also tie back to the massive CLAMPverse of characters. In Tsubasa, we find Syaoran and company in yet another world only this time, its inside a giant birdcage. Our heroes quickly discover that the King of the Birdcage Kingdom is up to something sinister and must try to foil his plans while searching for one of Sakura's feather memories.

You won't get a lot of background in this one, so if you're not already familiar with Tsubasa, you should get familiar with the basic story line before you watch.

Think of this one as a separate, bonus story arc in the series and you'll do just fine.

xxxHolic on the other hand, runs a bit longer and provides a little more background meat to get you going. Yuko, Watanuki and Domeki agree to attend a strange auction in a mansion owned by a woman who claims to be "locked out of her house". At the auction, we meet a group of odd collectors who soon begin to disappear. Yuko and company must wind through the mansion and solve the mystery before they disappear too.
